How to get started

Starting home care is easier than you think

Whether you are looking for help for yourself or for someone you love, the first step is a conversation with our office.

What happens next

  1. Reach out

Call us or send a short message. Tell us who needs support and the best way to reach you.

  2. Talk it through

We will listen to what daily life looks like now, answer questions, and explain what we can and cannot help with.

  3. Plan together

If we are a good fit, we agree on services, a schedule and how we will stay in touch with you and your family.

  4. Care begins

Your caregiver arrives as planned. We check in regularly and adjust the plan as needs change.

Helpful things to have ready

You do not need all of this for the first call, but it helps to think about:

  • Who needs support and where they live
  • Which daily tasks are becoming difficult
  • Days and times when help would be most useful
  • Who else should be part of the conversation, such as a family member
  • Questions you want to ask us

Please do not send medical information online. Do not include diagnoses, medications, medical history, insurance ID numbers or Social Security numbers in email or text messages. We will talk with you about care needs by phone or in person.

We will talk about health and care needs privately, by phone or in person.

Questions families often ask

Who can contact you about care?

Anyone. The person who needs care, a family member, a friend, or a professional such as a social worker can call us. We will always respect the wishes of the person receiving care.

Which areas do you serve?

We serve Saint Paul and Ramsey County, Minnesota. If you are nearby but outside Ramsey County, call and ask. We will let you know whether we can help.

How quickly can care begin?

It depends on your needs, your schedule and our staffing at the time. We will give you an honest answer when we talk, and we will not promise a start date we cannot keep.

Can we choose the days and times of visits?

We work with you to find a schedule that suits your routine. Availability depends on staffing, so we will confirm what we can offer before care begins.

How do we pay for care?

We accept private pay. If you would like to ask about other ways to pay for care, please call our office and we will explain what may be available to you.

Is Jalu Home Healthcare licensed?

Jalu Home Healthcare Services LLC holds a Comprehensive Home Care license issued by the Minnesota Department of Health. Look up licensed home care providers on the MDH website (opens in a new tab)

What are my rights as a home care client?

Minnesota home care clients have rights under the Minnesota Home Care Bill of Rights, including the right to be treated with courtesy and respect and to take part in planning their care. The Minnesota Department of Health (opens in a new tab) has more information.

What if our needs change?

Tell us. We will review the plan with you and adjust services where we can. If a need is outside what we provide, we will tell you clearly.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 911. Our office is not an emergency service and cannot respond to emergencies.
